Ruth and I went to the Of Montreal show at the Orpheum last night. It was a lot of fun – sort of a cross between an ABBA show and a college musical theater production with really good music.

A number of dancers augmented the show. See if you can pick them out in the crappy cell photo as they hold up enormous arms and legs to extend Kevin Barnes’ body.

Here Barnes and a dancer combine to make a centaur. There was a lot of prancing around during the show, so much that afterwards, Ruth was surprised to hear that Barnes was married with a child.

As usual, Scott Meyer gets it:

One very good reason to upgrade to Vista is if you’re interested in speech recognition. Vista comes with an extermely useful speech recognition engine built in. It’s still not 100% perfect, but once you spend a short time training the system, it’s good enough so that using speech recognition to write is now a valid option. There are still times when you need to fix the word selection, but you won’t be making typos or spelling errors.
So on the balance, if you’re a merely adequate typist (like I am), modern speech recognition tools can significantly reduce the time and effort needed to write.

One day, a box arrived on our doorstep. Neither Ruth nor I had any idea what it was. When we opened it, we found a cat tree.

Phoebe and Felix love it (they’ve already loved the dangling fuzzy toys to death).
It was addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Charbonneau, so we assume it’s a wedding present. If you know who sent it, please let us know so we can thank them!

Come bleed on Friday!
ImprovBoston is hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross tomorrow, October 17th, from 10AM-3PM at the theater (40 Prospect St, Cambridge – steps from the Central Square T stop). Donors will receive a free pass to any show (except Gorefest) at the theater and will be entertained throughout the day will improvisers from our community. Things are much funnier when you’re weak and anemic! Tell your friends!
I’ll be part of the entertainment, working with Groaners for Donors from noon to 1PM.

In Arlington, the housing market is still relatively strong, but only for more modern units. So perfectly good older homes are torn down to make way for new, multi-unit developments, which can be sold at a premium. This one is located in a prime spot, just outside of Arlington Center.

A typical older Arlington single family goes for around $400,000. If you tear it down, you can build a two-family condo with each unit listing at upwards (sometimes well upwards) of $650,000.

Note how they’ve dug a two-family hole:

I drink to meet women. It’s a fact that people get better looking as you drink. After two drinks, my hair starts to grow back. After four, I start to get taller. After six, my penis has grown enormously! Or maybe, I just really need to go to the bathroom.
When I get back, it’s time to look for women. I want easy sex – a woman that definitely puts out. But I’m afraid to have kids, especially with someone I pick up in a bar. So I know just what I’m looking for. Unfortunately, I don’t score much. Did you know that most women in bars get mad if you ask them if they’re pregnant?
But it’s probably for the best. Here’s a picture of my car. Last time I drove the car, I crumpled it up a little. So when I take a girl home, I’d have to ask her if she wants to ride on the seat or on the handlebars. And if I’m really drunk, she’ll have to pedal.
